About Me
Hi, my name is Matheus Kunzler Maldaner and I am an undergraduate student at the University of Florida majoring in Data Science and minoring in Computer Science. After moving to the United States from Brazil in 2017 for a better education and safety, I attended highschool at Marjory Stoneman Douglas before moving to Gainesville to study at the University of Florida. When I am not studying I enjoy making sushi, going to the gym, reading science fiction books and participating in hackathons.
Current Involvement
Besides being a full time student at the University of Florida, I conduct research with the Florida Institute for National Security (FINS) on Neurosymbolic AI (NSAI) under Drs. Damon Woodard and Domenic Forte and mentors Stephen Wormald and Olivia Dizon-Paradis. I also conduct research remotely with Carnegie Mellon University Human Computer Interaction Institute on Auditing Text-to-Image AI Models under Drs. Jason Hong, Motahhare Eslami and Kenneth Holstein and mentor Wesley Deng. Outside of research, I am heavily involved within student organizations at the University of Florida. I currently serve as the President of the Data Science and Informatics (DSI) Organization, Co-Founder of UF's Signal Processing Society and Director of Campus Connections of UF's AI Club.
Previous Involvement
Some notable previous involvement in highschool include serving as the President of Marjory's Garden, President of National Honor Society and Captain of Mu Alpha Theta's Calculus Team. At the University of Florida, I served as the Workshop Director for DSI, the Vice President of UF's American Statistical Association and a mentor for SHPE.
What's Next
This summer I will be continuing my research with Microsoft on AI Agents, before coming back to Gainesville to start my Masters in Artificial Intelligence Systems. My decision to stay at the University of Florida was made easier as my little sister will be joining me here next year for her undergraduate studies. Looking ahead, I seek to pursue my PhD within the field of applied Machine Learning and make meaningful contributions to this ever evolving field. At the end of my life, I seek to have helped pave a path for the pioneers of tomorrow, leaving a meaningful and positive impact in the world my parents would have been proud of.
